Castle in Baranow Sandomierski – jewel of Renaissance architecture – called once “small Wawel”, is located in the lowlands of the lower Vistula.
Defense surrounding the castle provide a powerful bastion fortifications, probably will never be finished. To date, virtually nothing on them has not been. Residence itself was defended by a lower shooting in the basement, below the courtyard.
The castle has a regular structure. Founded on a rectangular plan with a ratio of sides 1:2, the corners are cylindrical towers, tower in the middle of the entrance to the beautiful courtyard. Surprising, the courtyard is located at floor – enter at him down the stairs! Translated it is the frequent flooding of the Vistula, water reaches the castle, but not flooded courtyard.
On three sides it is surrounded by two-storey residential wings. On two of them are arcaded cloisters, whose columns are decorated with gargoyles or human-animal faces. From the entrance there is a loggia leading to the second floor stairs paradnymi, above you can see decorative crest of attic. The rooms on the first floor of the castle houses the Museum of the Interior. First visits to the western wing of the hall portraits (conference) with four huge portraits of Polish kings, and above all, the Gallery Tylmanowską. Sala ta, although it is not original, I was somewhat arbitrarily reconstructed after the war, looks very impressive. It is richly decorated with stucco and paintings of Italian cities. The eastern wing are 3 Guest room and Tower Falconi decorated with gold. Decorating restored after the war by adding real gold, lighter than the original and leaving little residue to what the Soviets left behind blackened from smoke or fires walls. The ground floor has long been under renovation is the castle chapel, unavailable is also part of the hotel and restaurant, visits here, however Exposition dedicated to the extraction of sulfur and archeology of the longest in Europe, a boat made from a single tree trunk, and a temporary exhibition. At the castle from the west to the site of the former stables buildings erected after the war, which serve as a hotel. Before the front elevation peculiar trees grow – tulipanowce, certainly in May and June you can see them as they grow tulips. It is a pity, that more and more obscure they lock…
W XV w. on the site of the present castle was probably a Renaissance tower defense and Living, which was owned by James coat Grzymała. In 1569 r. surrounding estates bought Rafal Leszczynski Wieniawa coat and place a tower built by Renaissance fortified manor house. In the years 1591-1606 then owner of the land Baranowski – Andrzej Leszczynski – expanded the court giving it shape, has not changed much today. The last big reconstruction of the castle passed around 1695 r., when his owner was Joseph Charles Lubomirski. Changed the decor and expanded around the castle fortification system, which was finally liquidated in the first half of the nineteenth in.
