The courtyard of the Royal Castle in Niepołomice

The construction of a masonry fort in Niepołomice started in the mid-fourteenth century, the foundation of Casimir the Great. With this investment grew settlement, having in the future serve as the economic base for the royal residence. Castle quickly became a favorite of the last Piast, but its only flourished during the reign of Wladyslaw Jagiello, who for reasons known only to themselves clearly did not like Krakow and when he had to reside in Malopolska (and he did it rarely), resided precisely in Niepołomice. There were held the annual meeting of the king and his council, as well as great hunting with foreign dignitaries. In the middle of the fifteenth century Władysław III of Varna has a stronghold in the pledge Michael Dybaczowi and henceforth until the end of the eighteenth century the castle was (with short breaks) in the hands of private families: Czuryłów, Branickis and Lubomirski.
The period of modern buildings has brought changes, which completely transformed its form and purpose. The first upgrades began after 1506 Sigismund Old, and the final shape of the Renaissance residence acquired the castle in times of Sigismund Augustus, rozgrzebane who continued work by the father immediately after the removal of the damage caused by the conflagration of the year 1550.
