Giżycko is one of the most famous in Poland, the Mazury tourist destinations and sailing. The city lies on the trail of the great lakes of the Masurian. Giżycko is even called “sailing capital of the Polish”.
The city lies at the heart of the Great Masurian lakes. It is situated on lakes Niegocin, Kisajno (southern part of the complex Mamry Lake), Tajty and Wojsak. Niegocin and Kisajno (by the bay Tracz) are connected to the Canal Gizycki (Luczanski), and Niegocin in turn connects to the Canal Niegocińskim of Lake Tajty and further channel of beautiful mountain with Kisajnem. Part of the town is located on the so-called. Isle Giżycka, on each side of the isthmus surrounded by lakes and canals.
The attraction of the city is, among other things swing bridge on the canal Gizycki located within the street Moniuszko, opened to allow navigation on the canal for a few hours during the day. The circular motion then the street Moniuszko is paused. During periods, the street is impassable is possible to move to the other side of the canal by footbridge over the canal. From the footbridge can be seen flowing canal boats, boats and yachts.
Right next to the swing bridge is a castle of the Teutonic Knights, rebuilt several times, Today not much with the nature of Gothic brick buildings. The refurbished castle is now a hotel St. Bruno.
