Since then it has become one of the most important Polish shrines and the pilgrimage.
Abbey Throughout its history, it was repeatedly plundered and destroyed. Fallen into decline and was rising from the fall thanks to the generous sponsors of. It was only after the dissolution of the Order of the partitions has brought much destruction. In 1819 by decree of the primate, on the basis of the Bull of Pope Pius VII, abbey buildings handed over the treasury of the Kingdom of Polish. Located in the ruins of the abbey buildings Tsarist Russian authorities have transformed the 1864 in heavy prison, which existed here for 1939 (from 1918 as a Polish prison, It takes a penalty m.in. Sergiusz Piasecki i Stepan Bandera). However, in 1936 monks came here Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, who took over the part of the monastery. The outbreak of war, however, interrupted work on the revival of the monastery.
