Königstein Fortress was built on top of a typical area of the hill. Typical, that is, mild elevation crowned with weathered rock formations. The word crowned captures the nature of the landscape. The surrounding hills indeed look like wearing the royal headdress.
Königstein rises majestically above the village of the same name. Access to the fortress, however, is on the opposite side.
The wall of the fortress at the highest point grow to a height of more than 40 meters. This distance can be overcome by a panoramic elevator.
