Oak Bartek in Zagnańsk

The Forestry Commission Zagnańsk biggest tourist attraction is a natural monument – oak “BARTEK” increasing the road from Zagnańska to Samsonov. This oak belongs to the species of pedunculate (common throughout lowland Poland and in the mountains), has acorns on a long stalk, greenish longitudinally ridged. Oak “BARTEK” has the following dimensions: – diameter at breast height – 3,14 m, – circumference of the trunk at a height of 1,30 m – 9,85 m. – circumference of the trunk at ground – 13,4 m, – height – 30 m, – age – about 700 years, – thickness of the whole tree – ok. 72 m3, – merchantable timber thickness of the whole tree – ok. 65 m3, – in the main stem – ok. 46 m3, – crown spread – 20 m x 40 m, – hood crown – 720 m3. Owiany legendami “BARTEK” is one of the oldest trees Polish. In the year 1829 oak had 14 main branches and 16 side. Currently holds 8 main branches. Oak is próchnieniu and at any time can not withstand its own weight and the pressure of the wind. “King” trees require constant maintenance and care. The first scientific study “BARTEK” and establish his “metryki” occurred in 1860 r. In 1905 neighboring buildings, the fire caused necrosis, which entailed the peeling bark. These places so covered with bark removed from other oaks felled. In the years 1920, 1953, 1978, 1991 conservation procedures were carried out in order to protect trees. On the stump “BARTEK” are 2 cast iron figure of Christ crucified. In the shade of a tree resting King Jan III Sobieski, returning from Vienna.
