Kadan is a city in western Bohemia, Lying about 50 km east of the famous spa town of Karlovy Vary.
The first evidence of the existence in the Middle Ages the town of Kadan comes from breakthroughs Xi and XII century. During this time the chin on the river Ohře established trade settlement Kadan. At the turn of the seventies and eighties the twelfth century village took over the hospital order of knights Joanitów, who took her under the letter of 23 April 1186 r. On the initiative of the King – Wenceslaus I, or Przemysl Otakar II – Kadan was promoted to the rank of a royal town. During the reign of King, and later Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV (1346-1378) the city experienced a great flowering, which contributed to a recovery from a devastating fire in 1362 r. The emperor 1366 granted the town the right to complete autonomy. In the second half of the fifteenth century was marked by the impact of a noble family of Lobkowicz. On 10 August 1469 was appointed captain kadańskim John Hasištejnský of Lobkowic, who from the day 25 October 1469 became almost fifty years master of the whole city. That mighty noble Kadan owes Franciscan monastery buildings, where he was buried.
